ADMISSIONS INFORMATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Nirma university was established in 2003 as a statutory university under the act passed by the Gujarat State Legislative Assembly and is recognized under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act. The University offers admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across different institutes for international students under the following categories:

CIWGC-SEA

The candidates whose parents are working at Gulf Countries or South East Asia are eligible under this category.

FN

The citizens of all contries other than India, who are not of Indian origin as defined under OCI are eligible under this category. This category includes SAARC countries also.

OCI

The persons who are citizens of other countries (except Pakistan and Bangladesh) who at any time held an Indian Passport, or who or either of his parents or any of his grand parents was a citizen of India by virtue of the provisions of the Constitutions of India or Sec 2 (b) of Citizenship Act, 1955 (Act No. 57 of 1955) are eligible under this category. Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) are considered under this category.

NRI/NRI Sponsored

An NRI is an Indian citizen who is not a resident of India. The NRI-Sponsored quota applies to candidates who are Indian citizens and resident of India and produce a sponsorship letter from a person who is an NRI.

Academic Eligibility:

The candidate must have passed the qualifying examination with the minimum percentage of marks in subjects as prescribed by the Government of Gujarat from time to time. (Generally, these subjects include Mathematics and Physics, along with any one of Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, or a Technical Vocational Course.)

  • Twenty-five percent (25%) of the intake is filled by ACPC, Government of Gujarat.
  • Sixty percent (60%) of the intake is filled under the All-India Quota by Nirma University, based on JEE Main scores.
  • Fifteen percent (15%) of the intake is filled under the NRI quota, based on PCM marks of the Class 12 examination only. The vacant seats of the NRI quota may be filled under the NRI-Sponsored quota, based on JEE Main scores
  • The supernumerary CIWGC-SEA / OCI / FN admission is based on PCM marks of the qualifying examination; entrance test is not required.

Academic Eligibility:

A student must have passed the qualifying examination of Bachelor of Engineering (B.E,) / Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) from a recognized university with the minimum percentage of marks or equivalent (CPI) as prescribed by AICTE from time to time,.

Alternatively, a student must have passed any other qualifying degree/diploma examination considered equivalent by Nirma University with the minimum percentage of marks as prescribed by AICTE from time to time, or an equivalent CPI.

Admissions are primarily based on GATE scores. If GATE-qualified candidates are not available, Nirma University may fill the seats through its own entrance test. The supernumerary quota for CIWGC-SEA and OCI/FN categories is filled on the basis of marks obtained in the bachelor’s degree; an entrance test is not required.

Academic Eligibility:

Students seeking admission to the first year of the MCA (2-Year Programme), leading to a Master’s degree in Computer Applications, should have passed the qualifying examination with the minimum percentage of marks as prescribed by the Government of Gujarat / AICTE from time to time.

The supernumerary quota of CIWGC-SEA and OCI / FN is filled on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying examination; no entrance test is required.

Programme Overview:

Students enrolled in the BS (Computer Science & Engineering, 2+2 Dual Degree Programme) study in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Nirma University for the first two years. Upon successful completion of the first two years, they are required to apply for transfer to the third year of the undergraduate programme at a partner university in the US or Canada.

Nirma University has collaborations with several international universities where students can seek admission as transfer students. The admission requirements of the partner universities—such as CGPA, entrance examinations, and achievements in curricular, co-curricular, or extra-curricular activities—will apply. The regulations of the partner university will apply during the third and fourth years of study.

The partner university will award the undergraduate BS degree in accordance with its regulations. Additionally, as a part of dual degree programme, Nirma University will also award a separate undergraduate degree.

It is the responsibility of a student to fulfill the English proficiency requirement (TOEFL or IELTS), and to complete the student visa process with a valid passport through the respective US or Canadian embassy. In case a student does not fulfill the academic requirements of the first two years, or is unable to secure admission or a visa for the subsequent two years abroad,  the student will continue into the 3rd and 4th year at Nirma University. In this case, the student will follow the regulations of the Bachelor of Technology programme at Nirma University, and will be awarded the Bachelor of Science (Computer Science & Engineering) degree after the successful completion of four years of study.

Eligibility:

The candidate should have passed the Class XII (Science stream) examination or an equivalent with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks, with Mathematics and Physics as compulsory subjects, along with any one of the following:

Chemistry, Computer Science, Electronics, Information Technology, Biology, Informatics Practices, Biotechnology, Technical Vocational Subject, Agriculture, Engineering Graphics, Business Studies, or Entrepreneurship.

In addition, the candidate should have appeared for either JEE-Main or GUJCET

Selection Criteria:

  • Regular Category and NRI-Sponsored: Based on merit in JEE-Main or GUJCET.
  • Gulf-CIWGC / OCI / FN and NRI: Based on merit marks in Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry of the qualifying examination. The entrance exam JEE-Main or GUJCET is not required.

Programme Overview:

Students enrolled in this programme will study at Nirma University for the first two years. Upon successful completion, they will be guided to apply for transfer to the third year of the undergraduate programme at a partner university in the US. Nirma University will assist students in selecting the partner university. Admission requirements of the partner universities regarding CGPA, coursework, entrance examinations, curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular achievements will apply.

The regulations of the partner university will apply during the third and fourth years of study. The undergraduate BS degree will be awarded by the partner university as per its regulations. Additionally, Nirma University will transfer the credits earned during the third and fourth years back into its system and will separately award the BS (Mechanical Engineering) degree as per its regulations.

It is the responsibility of a student to fulfill the English proficiency requirement (TOEFL or IELTS), and to complete the student visa process with a valid passport through the respective US or Canadian embassy. Programme Overview:

Students enrolled in the BS (Civil Engineering, 2+2 Dual Degree Programme, Degree from Australia) will study at Nirma University for the first two years. After successful completion, they will be guided to apply for transfer to the third year at our partner institution, Curtin University, Perth, Australia. The regulations of Curtin University will be applicable during the third and fourth years of study, and students will be awarded the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Civil and Construction Engineering (Major) as per Curtin University’s regulations. Additionally, since this is a dual degree programme, Nirma University will also award the BS (Civil Engineering) degree.

It is the student’s responsibility to fulfil the English proficiency requirement (IELTS) and to apply for a student visa with a valid passport through the Australian Embassy.

In case a student does not fulfill the academic requirements of the first two years, or is unable to secure admission or a visa for the subsequent two years abroad, the student will continue into the 3rd and 4th year at Nirma University. In this case, the student will follow the regulations of the Bachelor of Technology programme at Nirma University, and will be awarded the Bachelor of Science (Civil Engineering) degree after the successful completion of four years of study.

Upon successful completion of first two years, they are required to apply for transfer to the third year at our partner institution, Curtin University, Perth, Australia. The regulations of Curtin University will be applicable during the third and fourth years of study, and students will be awarded the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Chemical Engineering (Major) as per Curtin University’s requirements. The undergraduate degree of Bachelor of Industrial Design will be awarded by the partner university as per its regulations. Additionally, Nirma University will transfer the credits earned during the third and fourth years back into its system and will separately award the Bachelor of Science in Product & Interaction Design degree.

Students are required to clear an English proficiency test (TOEFL, IELTS, or equivalent) and apply for a student visa with a valid passport at the US Embassy.

In case a student does not fulfill the academic requirements of the first two years, or is unable to secure admission or a visa for the subsequent two years abroad, he / she should continue into the 3rd and 4th year at Nirma University. In this case, the student will follow the regulations of the Bachelor of Technology programme at Nirma University, and will be awarded the Bachelor of Science (Product & Interaction Design) degree after the successful completion of four years of study.

Partner University:

Students may seek transfer admission to the +2 phase at:

Eligibility:

  • Candidates must have passed the HSC (10+2) examination or any other equivalent examination recognized by Nirma University with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.
    OR
  • Candidates holding a 10+3 diploma approved by the State Board of Technical Education or another recognized board/university with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks are also eligible.

Selection Criteria:

  • Based on Class XII marks and a personal interview.

Programme Overview:

The students enrolled in BS (Pharmaceutical Science, with an exit option to earn PharmD degree from the US) study at Institute of International Study, Nirma University for the first two years.

After completing the first two years, the students will have an exit option for consideration of admission to:

  • State University of New York at Binghamton (SUNY Binghamton), New York, US
  • University of Cincinnati, Ohio, US

If the students are admitted at the US university, they will transfer into their professional phase of the PharmD programme for the next four years. The State University of New York at Binghamton and the University of Cincinnati are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and award PharmD degree to students who fulfil the programme requirements after six years of study (2+4) in total. Nirma University will also award such students an Undergraduate Diploma as per its rules and regulations. The students who opt to continue at Institute of International Study, Nirma University after the first two years or the students who do not get the US Visa / admission in PharmD programme will continue with the BS programme and will be awarded the Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Science degree by Nirma University as per the rules and regulations.

Eligibility criteria:

The applicant must have passed the HSC 12th standard exam or an equivalent exam as approved by Nirma University with mandatory subjects as physics, chemistry, and either mathematics or biology; and a minimum of 60% aggregate.
The admission is based on the merit decided by the theory portion marks of the three subjects physics, chemistry and mathematics / biology and a personal interview.

Tuition Fee:

  • Fee for the BSc phase: USD6500 per year for Indian citizens who passed the HSC 12th standard or an equivalent examination from India or Gulf countries, USD7500 per year for all others
  • Tuition Fee for the PharmD phase: As per the rules and regulations of the US university

Programme Overview:

The students enrolled in Global MBA (1 + 1 Dual Degree International Programme – MBA (Global Management) from Nirma University and MS Degree from the US) study in the Nirma University for the first year. On the completion of the first year, they will apply into the MS program of our partner university in the US. Nirma University would help students select the partner university to apply. The partner universities’ admissions requirements of CGPA, coursework, entrance exams, curricular, co-curricular, extra-curricular activities etc do apply. The regulations of the partner university will be applicable during the second year of the study. The partner university will award the MS degree in the selected major of Business / Management as per their regulations. Also, Nirma University will transfer the credits earned in the second year at the foreign university back into their system and separately award a MBA (Global Management) degree as per the regulations of Nirma University.

The student needs to clear the English proficiency test by appearing in the TOEFL or IELTS or other equivalent examination and apply for a student visa with a valid passport at the US embassy. In case a student could not fulfil the academic requirements of the first year or could not get admission / visa for the MS programme of the US university, the student will continue the study at Nirma University and will be governed by the regulations of MBA programme of Nirma University for the said period of study to award the MBA (Global Management) degree.

The students can get admission for the STEM-recognized MS programme of various majors in Business / Management in the following partner universities from the US:

  • University of California at Davis, US
  • University of Illinois at Chicago, US
  • Michigan State University, East Lansing, US
  • University of Cincinnati, Ohio, US

Intake:

Eligibility:

A three-year bachelor’s degree (10+2+3) or a four-year bachelor’s degree (10+2+4) or an equivalent in any discipline from a recognised university with at least 50% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA.

Candidates appearing in the final year of the Bachelor’s Degree can also apply, provided they furnish the proof of meeting the minimum eligibility criteria within 3 months of them joining the programme. They should have appeared in all the examinations of their graduation by the time of commencement of the programme. The candidates failing to meet the minimum eligibility criteria will be asked to withdraw from the programme. The tuition fee paid by such candidates will be forfeited unless such vacant seats are filled by other candidates.

Selection Criteria:

Candidates are required to take the Common Admission Test (CAT) examination conducted by the Indian Institute of Management. Candidates shortlisted on the basis of their performance in different components of CAT will be called for Personal Interview and Theme Development & Presentation (TDP). The candidates will be finally selected for admission based on their performance in the CAT, TDP, Personal Interview, academic performance in XII and graduation, and work experience (similar to MBA program selection criteria).

Tution Fee:

  • First Year for all admitted students at Nirma University, and second year at Nirma University for those students who did not get a US visa:
    USD 11,000 per year for Regular and CIWGC category
    USD 15,000 per year for NRI/NRI Sponsored and OCI/FN categories
  • Second Year at a partner university in the US: As per the US partner University norms
  • Fees for registration, examination, Library, immersion programme etc will be the same as those in MBA programme of the Nirma University.

Academic Eligibility:

Candidates should have passed the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) Examination (10+2) or any other equivalent examination recognized by Nirma University with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks.

For 65% All-India seats, 15% NRI/NRI Sponsored seats, and 15% Supernumerary CIWGC/PIO/FN seats, a minimum of 60% in the qualifying examination is required. For 20% Gujarat State seats, a minimum of 90% in the qualifying examination is required.

  • All India quota admissions are based on IPMAT test score, personal interview, and marks of the qualifying examination.
  • Gujarat State quota admissions are based on personal interview and marks of the qualifying examination.
  • NRI Sponsored quota admissions are based on the IPMAT, personal interview, and marks of the qualifying examination.

Candidates from the NRI/CIWGC-SEA/OCI/FN categories are exempted from any entrance test, and admissions are based solely on qualifying examination marks.

Academic Eligibility:

Candidates shall have passed the HSC or an equivalent qualifying examination with Mathematics, Physics, and Biology / Chemistry / Computer Science / Technical Vocational Course as subjects, with a minimum of 60% marks.

Eighty-five percent of the total intake shall be filled from candidates who have passed the qualifying examination from schools located in India (including Gujarat State) and have appeared for JEE (Main). Candidates shortlisted on the basis of their performance in the JEE will be called for a Personal Interview. The final merit shall be determined based on the following criteria:

  • Weightage of JEE (Main) scores: 50%
  • Weightage of performance in Personal Interview: 30%
  • Academic performance in qualifying examination: 20%

Fifteen percent of the total intake shall be filled by NRI candidates. JEE or any other entrance test is not required for NRI candidates.

    • MBA & MBA (HRM): Based on CAT score, Interview, Presentation, and Academic Record.
    • MBA (Family Business & Entrepreneurship): Based on NU Entrance Test, Interview, Presentation, and Academic Record.
  • NRI/CIWGC-SEA/OCI/FN Quota: GMAT may be considered in place of CAT.

Academic Eligibility:
Candidates should have passed the qualifying examination with the minimum marks prescribed by the Government of Gujarat from time to time. Required subjects generally include Physics, Chemistry, and Biology / Mathematics.

Selection & Intake:

  • 85% of intake (ACPC & GOG): The ACPC, Gujarat State, fills 85% of the seats. Candidates need to apply to the ACPC for the centralized admission process. Eligible candidates will be allotted admission based on a merit list prepared considering the results of the qualifying examination (12th board exam) and the GUJCET of the current year. If any seats remain vacant after the completion of the ACPC admission process (i.e., after the final round of allotment), the Institute will directly process admissions for the vacant seats as per the norms and instructions of the ACPC.

Academic Eligibility:

Candidates should have passed the Bachelor of Pharmacy from a recognized university with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent cumulative grade point index), as prescribed by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) from time to time. Alternatively, candidates holding a qualifying degree/diploma considered equivalent by Nirma University are also eligible.

Selection Criteria:

  • General Quota: Preference will be given to applicants with a valid GPAT score, and admission will be based on GPAT performance across all branches. If GPAT-qualified candidates are unavailable, admission may be granted to non-GPAT candidates on the basis of merit in the written test conducted by Nirma University.
  • Supernumerary Quota (CIWGC-SEA/OCI/FN): Admission will be granted based on marks obtained in the qualifying examination; no entrance test is required.

Academic Eligibility for Pharm.D Admissions:

  1. 10+2 examination with Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subject along with one of the following subjects:
    Mathematics or Biology
  2. A pass in D.Pharm course from an institution approved by the Pharmacy Council of India under section 12 of the Pharmacy Act.
  3. Any other qualification approved by the Pharmacy Council of India as equivalent to any of the above examination.

Provided that a student should complete the age of 17 years on or before 31st December of the year of admission to the course.
The supernumerary CIWGC-SEA/OCI/FN admission is based on PCM/B marks of the qualifying exam, entrance test is not required.

For 15 seats in LL.M. (Criminal and Security Law) and 15 seats in LL.M. (Constitutional and Administrative Law), candidates must have passed the Bachelor of Laws qualifying examination — Three-Year LL.B. (General) / LL.B. (Special) or Five-Year Integrated LL.B. programme from a recognized university with a minimum of 55% marks.

Admission is granted to candidates who have appeared in PG-CLAT. Subject to seat availability, non-PG-CLAT candidates may also be considered on the basis of the All India PG ILNU Entrance Test. For the supernumerary CIWGC-SEA/OCI/FN quota, admission is based on qualifying examination marks only; entrance test is not required.
